How much does a music video cost in 2026?

Anywhere from nothing to six figures. For an independent musician the realistic choices are DIY, a one-day shoot with a small crew for a few thousand dollars, a freelancer’s lyric video, or an AI-generated video. Here are the real numbers, with sources.

The short answer, by budget

Sources: Puritano Media Group (August 2026), Amos Le Blanc (March 2026), Orphiq (September 2026) and J. Scalco (September 2026), whose case studies include a $500 DIY band video and a $1,500 folk-band video.

What drives the price

Shoot days matter most: every day multiplies crew and gear rates, and Le Blanc notes a second day nearly doubles the production cost. A second location adds 20 to 40%. Then come crew size, paid talent and dancers, permits, the camera package, and post-production: editing hours, color grading and effects.

For a sense of day rates, one cost guide lists directors at $400 to $2,500 a day, videographers at $600 to $3,500 and editors at $160 to $1,500 a day, or $20 to $150 an hour depending on experience (Fash; its page dates from 2023, so treat these as floors).

Lyric videos and visualizers

The cheapest real video is a lyric video. Made yourself in CapCut or Canva it costs nothing but time. On Fiverr, lyric-video gigs run from about $25 for a basic one to $300 for an animated one, with storytelling versions around $175. What a lyric video cannot do is show a performer singing the song.

Where AI fits

AI video tools put a performance-style video in the DIY price band. The cost depends on the tool and on how much of the song is lip-synced, because every second of video is rendered:

  • Reelody: $29 a month covers up to 2 full videos (2,900 credits), so roughly $15 a video, with the singer lip-synced on the lines you choose, including wide shots. Each scene shows its price before it renders, and there is a free demo of three scenes, around 7 seconds.
  • One More Shot AI estimates about $42 for a 3:30 song on its own site.
  • Clip tools such as Runway start at $15 a month, but a three-minute video needs 25 to 40 clips plus your own editing time.

The trade-off is control: a crew can film exactly what you imagine, with you in it. AI gets you a finished, watchable video for the cost of a meal, and with Reelody you can still be the singer from your own photo. We compare the AI options fairly in the best AI music video generators.

How to spend a small budget well

One day, one location. Both are the biggest multipliers, so keep each to one. Spend on the edit, not the gear: a good editor rescues phone footage; a good camera does not rescue a bad edit. Make a vertical cut for Shorts, Reels and TikTok from the same footage. Test the idea cheaply first: a lyric video or a free AI demo tells you whether the song lands before you book a crew.
